Ultra-Fast Diffusion in Severely Deformed Materials

چکیده
1. Introduction Severe plastic deformation (SPD) is nowadays used to produce sizeable amounts of bulk nanocrystalline materials, which renders them suitable for different innovative applications, owing to favourable combinations of high mechanical strength and enhanced ductility they offer. Enhanced grain boundary diffusion is largely responsible for the resulting property combinations. SPD processing of metals is demonstrated to create bulk nanostructured materials with a hierarchy of internal interfaces [1]. In this contribution, the defects that represent the constituents of the fast diffusion network are analysed.

Isothermal Recrystallization Behavior of Cold-deformed Martensite in an Ultra-low-carbon Microalloyed Steel
One of the most promising ways to produce a grain-refined microstructure in some steel materials is the thermomechanical processing route of subcritical recrystallization annealing of a cold-deformed martensite structure. In the present study, the microstructural evolutions and the associated recrystallization kinetics under various subcritical annealing heat treatment conditions are explored i...
متن کاملEvolution of texture in an ultrafine and nano grained magnesium alloy
The evolution of texture was discussed during the formation of ultra-fine and nano grains in a magnesium alloy severely deformed through accumulative back extrusion (ABE). The microstructure and texture obtained after applying multiple deformation passes at temperatures of 100 and 250°C were characterized. The results showed that after single ABE pass at 100°C an ultrafine/nano grained microstr...
متن کاملHybrid supercapacitor-battery materials for fast electrochemical charge storage
High energy and high power electrochemical energy storage devices rely on different fundamental working principles--bulk vs. surface ion diffusion and electron conduction. Meeting both characteristics within a single or a pair of materials has been under intense investigations yet, severely hindered by intrinsic materials limitations. Here, we provide a solution to this issue and present an app...
متن کاملMicrostructures and Mechanical Properties of Ultra Low Carbon Interstitial Free Steel Severely Deformed by a Multi-Stack Accumulative Roll Bonding ProcessThis Paper was Presented at the Fall Meeting of the Japan Institute of Metals, held in Fukuoka, on September 24, 2001
An ultra low carbon interstitial free (IF) steel was severely deformed by the six-layer stack accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) process for improvement of the mechanical properties. As-received material with 1mm in thickness showed a recrystallization structure with average grain diameter of 27mm. The ARB was conducted at ambient temperature after deforming the as-received material to 0.5mm thick...
متن کاملPolychromatic microdiffraction characterization of defect gradients in severely deformed materials.
This paper analyzes local lattice rotations introduced in severely deformed polycrystalline titanium by friction stir welding. Nondestructive three-dimensional (3D) spatially resolved polychromatic X-ray microdiffraction, is used to resolve the local crystal structure of the restructured surface from neighboring local structures in the sample material. The measurements reveal strong gradients o...
